This is a solid book for beginners. I am not what I would call a programmer. My daily bread comes from building user interaction and knowing the technical foundations of Web application interfaces. That means I probably won't progress beyond the first half of the book. The early sections show step free installation of the large number of Microsoft installs that go into Silverlight development. A lot of software gets installed before you can begin the fun. I am glad I had this book for that.
After installation is complete, the author does not delay in getting you right into your first Silverlight "hello world." You get a chance to place each control and find out a bit of what it can do. Then you build on that, learning how to determine the layout and visual style of the screens and all the controls contained in them.
A good thing to know is that the book comes with a CD with a searchable digital version of the book as well as all the practice exercises and code samples.
