SABDET was founded in 1993 and is a UK-based charitable educational trust, registration number 1037977.

SABDET's objective, as set out in our founding Declaration of Trust, is to advance education for the public benefit concerning indigenous publishing in Africa as a means of communication and literacy

SABDET seek to build a South-North dimension into all its activities and to support co-operation in book publishing and distribution between the industrialised world and Africa.

SABDET works with partners in Africa and internationally in pursuing its aims, including, in particular, the Zimbabwe International Book Fair (ZIBF), and the African Publishers' Network (APNET).

SABDET programmes include:

• Reading Africa

• African Journals Support & Development Centre (AJSDC)
• Electronic publishing for African scholarly journals
• South-North Travel Fund (SNTF)
